2008 June Formations

Some simple to  Rules to observe before entering a formation.

Visiting the crop circles can be a very exhilarating experience. Please remember  that the vast majority of circles appear on private land.

Please always ask permission before entering a formation, and respect the farmers wishes.

Please remain on the tractor lines where ever possible.

Do Not   smoke or light a cigarette whilst in the field.

Carry some small change with you in case you are asked to make a
donation by the farmer for  entering his field - the amount can vary, but as
a rule of thumb £2.00 per visitor is about average. Some farmers leave a
donation box by the side of the field or in the formation itself  please contribute.

Do Not  park your vehicle in such a way that it will cause an obstruction.

This crop glyph, 300 feet in diameter, was first spotted in the early morning of June 1st 2008. The formation can be well seen from the road-side at the north base of the castle hill, and can be seen in its entirety from the elevated position just a short distance up the hill. On the ground the formation is extremely neat and precise throughout. The entire laid crop arcs within the circle was very clean and there were no obvious signs of mechanical device usage, further, no boot and plank stomping marks were found to be evident at the site. In all parts of the formation that were examined closely the barley plants were neatly bent just above the ground and not broken or crushed. This applies to the outer edges of the formation and its internal elements also. The formation measures approximately 300 feet in diameter The laid barley crop in the circular elements of the glyph were noted as being swirled out from the central points in what could be considered a mathematical spiral formula, which flows to the peripheries with some elegance. The entire formation has a seamless effect on the ground, as if the agency involved in its creation was a singular energetic, hand or entity. Charles Mallett. The proportions within this 2008 event indicate a far more intricate ratchet than its 1991 predecessor.    For  full size photographs please visit © Lucy Pringle  When Newsnight said to me the BBC had no intention of doing any in-depth study or program on crop circles, I thought that really says it all. They are not prepared to look at the crop phenomenon seriously.”  Lucy Pringle, Crop Circle Photographer and Author

Furze Knoll, nr Beckhampton. My sincere thanks to Philippe Ullens © 2008 20 June 2008 was a very special day. It was the day of the Summer Solstice, which is normally on 21 June or sometimes on 22 June. The 20 June Summer Solstice was the earliest in more than 100 years. The last time the June solstice fell on June 20 was in 1896. That was also a leap year, like 2008. The next date when the June solstice falls on June 20 will be in 2012!  20 June 2008 was also the day a crop circle came down on Furze Knoll, Wiltshire, UK.
